ICS 314 is a software engineering class at the University of Hawaii at Manoa that focuses on problem analysis and design. The course also emphasizes team-oriented development, quality assurance, configuration management, and project planning. The acronym “ICS” stands for “Introduction to Computer Science.” The course is offered in the second year of the computer science major, and you need to have completed prior courses to take it. I am very excited to be taking this course.
Some things I am excited to learn about in ICS 314 include gaining a deeper understanding of web development. I heard that we will be designing web pages and learning what goes on in the backend, which is very intriguing to me. I am also looking forward to working with my team; the people at my table seem very friendly, and they have already been very helpful. We even made a Discord group chat together! I would also like to learn more about writing better code and improving my code organization, as sometimes my code doesn’t look very neat. I heard we will be working with a program that helps with this, which is very exciting for me. One thing I would also like to work on is developing a more professional persona. It’s only been two weeks, and I’ve already learned how to create this webpage. I can’t wait to see what else we will accomplish this semester!
ICS 314 may be a challenge with all the work that is said to be involved, but I feel I will become a much better student and developer because of it. I will work hard to learn everything there is to know and improve my ability to work faster and smarter as time goes on. I’m ready to collaborate with my classmates and complete this course together, and hopefully make friends who will be with me until I graduate.
